I was born and grew up in Swindon Wiltshire. Swindon is close to the North East border of Wiltshire and the neighbouring Counties of Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
My ancestors on my Mother and Grandmother's side, the Gee family, certainly back to the early 1700's, were based on the outskirts of Swindon in the areas to the North from Cricklade to Stanford in the Vale.
In the early 1900's the widow of Frederick Gee converted to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) or as they are often referred to the Mormon religion and subsequently emigrated to America. As many will know they have amassed a great deal of family history information and this is made available on their website Family Search.org
I was first made aware of this information through my Grandmother in the 1970's after she had been visited by relatives from America who gave her many sheets of family history information. Fast forward now to the present day and I am now pulling this all together along with the masses of information from the LDS site. As I have so much information on this side of my family I am focusing on them for the time being.
Frederick Gee is my Great-Great Grandfather on my Mothers and Grandmothers side and I have found it easy to make a starting point of Frederick and his wife Mary Ann Gee (née Willis) as they rather conveniently have a good deal of information available and lived at a time when Swindon was being transformed from a small market town to an industrial one with the introduction of the Great Western Railway (GWR) for which there is also a good deal of history available.
