Family History

On my mothers side I have the Gee family from my Grandmother and the Timms family on my Grandfathers side.

On my fathers side I know almost nothing. He was a Ukrainian displaced person at the end of WWII and chose to come to the UK rather than go back to the Ukraine under Soviet rule. He and Mum met in Stratton St Margaret Swindon and they married in 1954 and he died in 1960 when I was five.

It is worth pointing out that I was known as David Lavelle from 1963 when Mum married Terry Lavelle. So all through my school years I was known as David Lavelle and it was only when I joined the Royal Navy in 1971 did I revert back to my real name.

Gee Family

My Mothers Mother, Rose Timms (née Gee) connects me to the Gee Family, and there is a great deal of available knowledge of the Gee family as a result of their association with the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) who have done a great deal of research into their ancestors and subsequently made it available on their website.

Timms Family

I have less knowledge of the Timms family but my Grandfather Mum's father was born at Littleworth near Faringdon which is now Oxfordshire but was Berkshire when my Grandfather was born. His family lived around this and the Standford in the Vale area.

Suchodola Family

I have almost nothing known about my father and his family. He was reluctant to talk about the experiences of the war years and with his untimely death his memories were lost. I don't speak or write Ukrainian or Russian and have not visited and now with the current situation with Russian it seems any research will have to wait.

Family History is a project that never finishes as the more you find out the more there is to know so I will work at it and add as I find out things, so it may be worth coming back for a visit again.
