GWR Railway Works Swindon Hooter

Swindon Railway Works Hooter

One of the memories of growing up in Swindon in the 1960's was the sound of the Railway Works Hooter. This hooter sounded to call the men and women to work in the mornings and at the end of the lunch hour. It was heard all over Swindon partly because it was loud enough but mainly because in those days there just wasn't the background noise that is commonplace today.

Man with Pointy Stick

Man with Pointy Stick

There are a selection of images that have a man using a white hand held arrow to point to something that have been named "Man with Pointy Stick". There is a board in the image which gives some information as to the location, but sadly does not provide an accurate map reference.

E Day Swindon WIltshire

Some years ago I bought a Bank Passbook for an Edward Day Junior. It has been sat in a shoe box carefully wrapped to protect it from the environment but recently I decided to have it out and see if I could find out some more about this gentleman.

Drury's Off Licence Swindon

Drury's Off Licence Swindon

During the 1980's my wife and I Sally would walk around Swindon on a Sunday when it was quiet. I took this picture on one such Sunday which I rather like as it shows Drury's the Off Licence in Prospect Place quite well.

Bridge Street Swindon

We may not have a time machine like Dr Who that allows us to visit a point in time but the image can give such an amount of information its almost like being there.
